Xiamen's drainage infrastructure malfunctioned

Instead of draining, a sewer on Xiamen City's Lvling Road was gushing out
water like a fountain on May 23, causing a large area on the road to be
submerged by accumulated water. Another manhole located at Houpu was also
pouring out sewage with a wide open "mouth". Two consecutive days of
rainfall gave rise to malfunction of drainage infrastructures in many
areas of Xiamen and serious problems resulted from accumulated water.
Whether urban drainage infrastructure can work properly arouses people's
general concern during the rainy season.
