This weekend is the time for the capital to get in touch with its
creative side, as the 2007 Art Beijing Contemporary Chinese Art Fair, the
largest-ever art event in China, kicks off.

As the biggest art fair in the capital, this year's expo has gathered
works from 116 of the most prominent galleries, including 67 from China
and 49 from abroad.

A plethora of important contemporary masterpieces are represented at the
fair, and audience members will get a precious chance to enjoy the works
of international masters, such as Marc Chagall, Andy Warhol, Picasso,
Yoko Ono and Kim Changlie, as well as such top Chinese artists as Luo
Guanzhong, Wang Huaiqing, Shang Yang and Xia Xiaowan.

The art fair also brought together the biggest-ever gathering of 30
world-renowned Chinese video artists. These artists will stage two
special exhibitions - Three Dimensional Viewing Mirror, International
Visual Art Festival and Spanish Video, and New Media and Sound Art
Exhibition in the National Agricultural Exhibition Center, where most
exhibits will be displayed.

All of the art zones in Beijing will open complementary satellite
exhibitions. Art aficionados can embark on a bus journey that begins at
the National Agricultural Exhibition Center and takes them to the 798,
Caochangdi and Huantie art districts.

Other highlights include a live performance by Ryoji Ikeda, a Japanese
master of experimental electronic music. He will perform his new work
Digital Permeation at 8 pm on the evening of September 19, before the
tentative opening of Art Beijing. American producer Rick Widmer's short
film Eyes Contact documenting contemporary Chinese art will also be shown
for the first time on the same evening.

A series of forums and lectures on contemporary art development will also
run during the fair.

"Last year's art fair set a record with more than 200 million yuan in art
sales," said president of organizing committee Dong Mengyang.

"I am confident that this year's expo will bring even more surprises, as
the rapid development of Asian art has grabbed the attention of the
world," he continued. "The growth of art markets, not only in China but
also in other Asian countries, has become particularly eye-catching."

10am-7pm, Sep 20-23. 80 yuan. National Agricultural Exhibition Center, 16
Dongsanhuan Beilu, Chaoyang District. For more info, go to
